About Mine Sweeper

Mine Sweeper is a browser build of the logic puzzle that has barely changed in three decades: clear every safe square on a grid without detonating a hidden mine. Numbers are your only clue — each one tells you how many mines are touching that square, and working outward from the first few reveals is the entire game.

A round starts calm and speeds up as the board fills in. Early clicks usually open up a chunk of empty squares at once; the tension comes later, when you're staking a guess on a corner with only one or two numbered neighbors to go on. There's a built-in timer and a best-time record, so once you've cleared a board the real game becomes beating your own clock.

Controls

  • Click (or tap) a tile to reveal it
  • Click-and-hold, or tap-and-hold on mobile, to drop or remove a flag on a tile you suspect hides a mine
  • Click the smiley face to reset the board

Tips

  • Flag a mine as soon as you're certain — it stops you from misclicking it later and helps you count remaining neighbors on nearby numbers
  • When a revealed number's mine count is already satisfied by flags around it, every neighboring tile is safe to open
  • Work from the edges and corners inward; they have fewer neighbors, so their numbers narrow things down faster
  • If a guess is unavoidable, pick the tile bordering the fewest unrevealed squares — it carries better odds than an open patch of board

Runs in the browser with nothing to install, and suits both a two-minute break and a longer streak of tries at a personal best time.
