Age of War is a legendary base defense game where two civilizations clash across five distinct eras of history. You start in the Stone Age armed with club-wielding cavemen and slingshots, tasked with holding the line against incoming enemy waves while steadily pushing across the map to destroy their base. Every unit you defeat earns gold to fund your army and experience points that eventually let your entire civilization evolve into the next historical era.
The tug-of-war momentum is what makes every round so gripping. A battle can swing wildly in seconds; you might be desperately fending off heavily armored knights near your base, only to hit the XP threshold, evolve into the Renaissance Age, and immediately turn the tide with musketeers and cannons. Balancing your gold between disposable frontline units and permanent base turrets is the core of the strategy.
Controls
- Mouse: Click to train units, build turrets, and trigger special attacks.
- Screen Panning: Move your mouse cursor to the edges of the screen to pan the camera left and right.
Tips
- Turrets are investments: Units die, but a turret on your base stays forever (until you sell it). Prioritize getting at least one good turret early.
- Save gold before evolving: Upgrading to a new age gives you access to stronger units, but they cost significantly more gold. Don't evolve if your bank is empty, or the enemy's cheaper units will overrun you before you can afford your new ones.
- Use specials when cornered: Every age has a powerful special attack (like the Stone Age's meteor shower). Save these for when a massive enemy wave is right against your base.
