About Sandbox of Elements

Sandbox of Elements is a falling-sand physics playground: pick a material from a palette of close to a hundred elements — sand, water, fire, ice, acid, gunpowder, potions, even tiny fireflies and unicorns — and paint it onto an empty canvas to watch it fall, flow, burn, freeze or melt exactly as its own physics say it should. There is no fail state and no timer, just a grid that reacts the instant two materials touch.

Materials are grouped into categories like Fire, Cold, Sweets, Magic, Plants, Creatures, Electric, Gems, Chemistry, Explosives and Machines, switched with a tap or a number key. A quest list, refreshed daily, and a recipe log run alongside the sandbox, handing out experience for triggering specific reactions — pour lava over water to cool it into obsidian, melt sand with lava into glass, or freeze water with frost into ice — and recording each one the first time you find it. Progress and up to five separate saved “worlds” (two open from the start, the rest unlockable) are stored in your browser, so nothing carries over if you switch devices.

Controls

  • Click or tap and drag on the canvas to paint the selected material
  • Number keys 1-9 and 0 (or the on-screen icons) switch between element categories
  • Q, W, E, R, T pick brush sizes from smallest to largest
  • Switch between Freehand, Line, Rectangle and Circle to draw shapes instead of a raw brush
  • X selects the eraser
  • Space bar pauses the simulation

Tips

  • The best reactions usually cross categories — try a Fire material against a Cold one, or Chemistry against Gems, instead of staying inside a single palette
  • Pause with Space mid-reaction to see exactly which cells are changing before a big explosion gets away from you
  • The recipe log only fills in what you have actually triggered, so working through category pairs systematically is the fastest way to complete it

It suits anyone who enjoys poking at a chemistry set more than chasing a high score — the pace is entirely up to you.

Sandbox of Elements FAQ

What is Sandbox of Elements?
A falling-sand physics playground: you paint from a palette of nearly 100 reactive materials and watch them fall, burn, freeze and mix. There is no required goal, just chemistry.
Does it save my progress?
Yes, but only in your browser: quest progress, discovered recipes and up to five saved worlds are stored locally, so they will not carry over if you switch browsers or devices.
What do the number keys do?
They switch between element categories. Press 1 through 9 or 0, or tap the category icons on screen; Q, W, E, R and T change your brush size.
Is there an end goal?
No, it is an open sandbox. The quest list and recipe log give you things to aim for, but you can just paint and watch materials react for as long as you like.
