About Rustyard

Rustyard is a puzzle-platformer from Nitrome where you never touch the robot on the move — you only touch the yard around it. Press the red button to send the machine walking, then work fast to clear whatever is in front of it before it walks straight into trouble.

The robot walks on its own, turning around whenever it hits a wall, and it will not stop or wait for you. Each level is a small mechanical puzzle: raise or lower platforms, pull levers, and stack boxes to build it a safe path, all while it keeps moving.

Controls

Mouse only. Click the red button to start the level, then click and drag levers, platforms, and boxes to rearrange the yard in real time. Some setups need two-handed timing, like holding a claw machine's control block steady while spinning its wheel.

Tips

  • Watch which direction the robot is walking, not just where it is right now — obstacles need to be cleared before it arrives, not as it arrives.
  • Claw machines only activate from the block with the arrow facing the right way, so check that before assuming a claw is stuck.
  • On fan wheels, spin steadily rather than fast — going too quickly can make your grip slip.

It suits anyone who likes short, real-time mechanical puzzles where reacting quickly matters as much as planning the fix.

Rustyard FAQ

How do you control Rustyard?
With the mouse only. Click the red button to start the level, then click and drag levers, platforms, and boxes to clear a path for the walking robot.
Do I control the robot directly?
No. It walks on its own once you start the level, turning around when it hits a wall, and reacting to whatever you clear or leave in its way.
Can I play Rustyard on mobile?
It's built for desktop play, since it relies on precise mouse clicks and drags to move levers and platforms in real time.
Who made Rustyard?
Nitrome, the studio behind a long catalogue of browser puzzle-platformers. It was originally built in Flash and now runs in the browser through an HTML5 emulator.
