About Roly Poly

Roly Poly is a physics puzzle platformer originally made by Nitrome. You don't move the character directly — you tilt the whole level with your mouse, and gravity does the rest as a small hedgehog named Poly rolls across the tilted floor toward the level's exit.

Each level is short but strict: you're working against a countdown, and the field only really has three speeds to manage — slow, medium and fast, depending on how steeply you tilt. Rolling too fast makes hazards hard to react to, so most of a run is about finding the angle that gets you moving without losing control near a trap.

Controls

Click and drag with your mouse to tilt the play field. There's no keyboard involved — release or straighten the tilt to slow Poly down, and lean into a steep angle for a fast drop.

Tips

  • Near spikes or live electricity, tilt gently so Poly stays at the slow speed — it's much easier to correct course than at full tilt.
  • Some traps are easier to fall straight past than to roll around — a steep, near-vertical tilt drops Poly quickly through gaps that a shallow roll would clip.
  • Lives are unlimited, so use early attempts on a level to learn where the spikes and bombs actually are before you try to beat the clock.
  • Levels are grouped into easy, medium and hard tiers — if a level in the current tier is stalling you, it's often faster to bank a few easier clears first and come back to it.

It's a good fit for short, replay-friendly sessions — the kind of game you can restart a level in a couple of seconds and try a completely different tilt line.

Roly Poly FAQ

How do you control Roly Poly?
Click and drag with your mouse to tilt the level. There's no keyboard control — gravity rolls Poly in the direction you tilt.
What do I need to avoid in each level?
Spikes, bombs and live electricity are placed throughout the levels. Touching any of them ends your attempt at that level.
Is there a time limit?
Yes, each level has a countdown to beat, but you get unlimited lives, so you can retry as many times as you need to learn the layout.
Does Roly Poly work well on mobile?
It's designed around mouse-drag tilting, so it plays best with a mouse on desktop rather than touch controls.
