Portrait of an Obsession is a point-and-click horror adventure from FM Studio, told as a stand-alone entry in their long-running Forgotten Hill series. You play someone chasing down a painting that might be cursed, following it across a strange, faraway land where nothing behaves the way it should.
A session plays out room by room: examine the environment, pick up whatever isn't nailed down, and figure out which object unlocks which door or clears which puzzle. The tone leans into grotesque, unsettling imagery more than jump scares, and a built-in hint system is there for when a puzzle stalls you out.
Controls
Everything runs through the mouse. Click to examine objects, click an item in your inventory to pick it up, then click it again on whatever you think it opens, powers, or fits.
Tips
- Click around every corner of a scene before moving on — the puzzles hide their solutions in small details that are easy to miss.
- Save the hint button for when you're actually stuck; using it too early can spoil a puzzle you might have solved yourself.
- Hold onto items even when you don't see an immediate use for them — most inventory objects come into play a scene or two later.
It plays in the browser on desktop, phone, or tablet, and suits anyone who enjoys a slow, creepy puzzle box more than a reflex challenge.
