About N Gon

N Gon is a free, open-source 2D physics roguelike shooter built by Ross Landgreen with the matter.js physics engine. You control a small polygonal character fighting through procedurally built runs, upgrading along the way with three separate systems: guns, field abilities and tech.

Each run is shaped by what you pick up — a new gun changes how you fight, a field ability gives you a second tool alongside it, and tech upgrades push your character further. As a rogue-lite, a run resets when your character goes down, so builds are meant to be tried, not committed to forever. Multiple difficulties, a Training Mode and an Experiment/Testing Mode are built in for trying things out before a real run, and there's an active community making maps and mods for it.

Controls

  • A/D or Left/Right arrows: move
  • W or Up arrow: jump
  • S or Down arrow: crouch
  • F or left mouse button: fire
  • Space or right mouse button: field ability
  • Q/E or mouse wheel: switch weapon
  • Number keys: select a specific weapon

Every control can be remapped from the settings menu.

Tips

  • Try Testing Mode before a real run — it lets you sample guns and field abilities without any risk to a run in progress.
  • Fire and field ability sit on separate inputs (F/left-click and Space/right-click), so you can trigger a field without letting go of your aim.
  • If F and Space feel awkward together, remap them — every key is reassignable, including mouse buttons.

It suits players who like physics-driven shooters and are willing to experiment with a new loadout every run rather than settling into one build.
