Jumping Shell is a clever physics-based puzzle platformer developed by Robert Alvarez, where you control a character that can nest inside multiple layers of shells. The core mechanic revolves around shedding your outer shell in mid-air to gain a vertical boost, essentially double-jumping by stripping away your outer layers. Your objective in each stage is to navigate a series of challenging rooms filled with traps, switches, and high platforms to reach the exit portal.

Every level requires careful tactical planning rather than raw reflexes. Discarding a shell makes you smaller and lighter, allowing you to squeeze into tight spaces or leap higher, but you also leave your old shell behind. You will often need to use these discarded shells to hold down pressure plates, activate doors, or act as platforms to help you reach the end of the room. The satisfaction comes from figuring out the exact sequence of shell-shedding and retrieval required to solve each puzzle.

Controls

• Move Left / Right: Use the A and D keys, or the Left and Right Arrow keys.
• Jump: Press W or the Up Arrow key.
• Shed Shell (Double Jump): Press W or the Up Arrow key again while in mid-air to discard your outer shell and launch upward.
• Restart Level: Press R if you get stuck or make a mistake.
• Go Back / Menu: Press Escape or B.

Tips to Clear the Levels

• Use Shells as Weights: Look out for pressure plates on the floor. You can stand on a plate, shed your shell to leave it behind on the switch, and walk through the opened gate as a smaller shell.
• Retrieve Your Shells: You do not lose your discarded shells permanently. Running back into a shed shell will instantly re-equip it, restoring your size and giving you back your double-jumping ability.
• Plan Your Jumps: Since shedding your shell launches you upward, time your second jump carefully to clear wide gaps or spikes. Sometimes it is better to wait until the peak of your initial jump before shedding the shell.
