Happy Wheels drops you into a side-scrolling obstacle course on a completely impractical vehicle — a segway, a wheelchair, a lawnmower, a shopping cart — and dares you to reach the finish line in one piece. Every level is built out of saw blades, spikes, mines and ragdoll physics that take limbs off with total indifference, and that combination of dark slapstick and genuinely tricky platforming is the whole appeal.

A run rarely goes clean. Lean too far into a jump and your rider tips backward off the seat; clip a blade at speed and you'll finish the level as a bloody, one-armed torso still technically "alive." The game doesn't punish that — it's often funnier than actually winning — but reaching the end intact, or fast, is its own separate challenge once you know a course.

Controls

Steer and lean with the arrow keys, and use the spacebar to trigger your character's action — ejecting from the vehicle, swinging an arm, or firing whatever the current rider is holding, depending which one you picked.

Tips

• Leaning forward speeds you up on descents but makes you far more likely to flip on a bump — ease off before jumps, not after.
• A rider who's been thrown clear of their vehicle can usually still crawl to the finish line, so don't restart the second things go wrong.
• Each character handles differently — the wheelchair is nimble but fragile, while heavier vehicles like the lawnmower plow through small obstacles you'd otherwise have to dodge.
• Watch a level's hazards before you commit to speed; most deaths come from blind jumps, not the obstacles you can already see.

It's best in short bursts — a few levels at a time, whenever you want something that's equal parts platformer and dark comedy.
