Grapple Grip is a clever puzzle platformer created by Robert Alvarez, where conventional jump physics are replaced entirely by a grappling hook. Controlling a small character, your goal is to climb to the exit portal of each level. Because you cannot jump, you must rely on your grappling gun to pull yourself onto ledges, hang from ceilings, and scale vertical shafts.
The game progresses from simple climbing exercises to complex spatial puzzles. As you delve deeper, you will have to contend with moving platforms, gravity-altering hazards, and non-grappable red surfaces that block your hook but still let you stand on them. Timing your attachments and figuring out the correct sequence of grapples is key to solving each of the 28 challenging stages.
Controls
Navigate the puzzles using these straightforward controls:
- A, D or Left/Right Arrow Keys: Move left and right
- W or Up Arrow Key: Fire the grappling hook and pull yourself up
- S or Down Arrow Key: Release the grapple hook / climb down
- R: Restart the current level (highly useful when you make a mistake)
Tips
- Test the Ceiling First: Not all blocks can be grappled. Look closely at the material and color of the blocks; red blocks are solid but ignore your grappling hook, forcing you to find alternative paths.
- Reposition While Hanging: Once attached to a surface, you can still swing or slide left and right to adjust your landing spot before letting go.
- Plan Your Sequence: Some levels require you to pull switches or push blocks in a specific order. Take a moment to scan the entire level before firing your first hook.
This game is perfect for fans of casual, brain-teasing puzzle games who enjoy minimalist graphics and tight, physics-based movement. It runs directly in your web browser with no downloads or installations required.
