Basketball Stars is a fast, arcade-style 1-on-1 basketball game from developer Madpuffers. Instead of simulating a full five-on-five match, it strips the sport down to isolation play: one attacker against one defender, a shot clock ticking, and a supershot meter building in the background. Pick a team, step onto the court, and the whole game becomes a tug-of-war between driving to the rim and slapping the ball away before it gets there.
Matches move quickly because every mechanic feeds into the next one. Dashing past a defender opens a driving lane, pumping the ball fakes out a jumping opponent, and a stolen ball turns defense into an instant fast break the way. Land enough plays and the supershot bar fills up, letting you unleash a guaranteed highlight-reel dunk from anywhere on the court — the kind of comeback tool that keeps a losing game interesting until the final buzzer.
Controls
Single player — Move with WASD or the arrow keys. Shoot or steal with X or L. Block or pump-fake with S. Tap a direction key twice to dash. Fire off a super shot with Z or K once the meter is charged.
Two player — Player 1 moves with WASD, shoots with B, pumps with S, and dashes with A or D. Player 2 moves with the arrow keys, shoots with L, pumps with the down arrow, and dashes with left or right. Either player triggers a super shot with K.
Tips
- Double-tap a direction the instant you get the ball to dash past a flat-footed defender before they can react.
- Pump-faking baits a defender into jumping early, clearing a window to drive or shoot uncontested.
- Don't hoard the supershot meter — use it as soon as it's full, since a stolen ball or a missed possession is a wasted chance to score.
- On defense, stay patient rather than spamming steal; whiffing a steal attempt leaves a clean driving lane open.
It plays best in short bursts — a quick one-on-one against a friend on the same keyboard, or a few rounds solo when you want basketball without the setup of a full game.
