Total Recoil is a side-view shooter built around one twist: every shot you fire also launches you the opposite way. Tap left and you shoot left while jumping right; tap right and it reverses. There's no separate jump button and no free aim — positioning yourself and attacking are the same action, so surviving a wave of robots means timing your shots to dodge as much as to kill.
Across 30 levels you work through a robot invasion: walking and jumping robots on the ground, flying units that fire energy beams from above, spiked floors, rotating saw blades, and missiles fired in from either side. Coins dropped by defeated robots let you unlock stronger playable characters with double or triple shots, extra lives, or a double jump. Each level rewards up to three stars, and collecting all 90 across the game unlocks an endless Survival mode.
Controls
Tap or hold the Left or Right arrow key (or the on-screen buttons on touch devices) to shoot in that direction — the same input also launches your character the opposite way.
Tips
- Use your recoil deliberately: shooting is also how you dodge, so fire toward empty space to reposition even when nothing is in your sights.
- Flying robots shoot beams from a distance — take them out early before ground robots close in, or you'll be caught between both.
- Save coins for a character with a double jump or extra shot type before pushing into later levels, where saw blades and cross-screen missiles start overlapping.
- Watch the floor as much as the enemies — spikes and saws don't flash a warning as clearly as incoming missiles do.
