Return Portal is a puzzle platformer built around a single trick: you can drop one portal marker at a time and teleport back to it whenever you like. Every level is a small locked room with a key hidden behind gaps, drops and walls you cannot simply walk across, and the only way through is to place your portal in exactly the right spot before you commit to a jump.
The early levels teach the basic loop — mark a landing spot, jump, teleport back if you overshoot — but the puzzles escalate quickly. Later on you'll portal-jump in mid-air to gain extra height, thread teleports through moving walls, and by the final levels dodge a laser that ends the run in one touch. Runs are short, so a bad placement costs you seconds, not minutes.
Controls
- A / D or Left / Right arrows — move
- W or Up arrow — jump
- Spacebar or X — place your portal, press again to teleport to it
- R — restart the level
Tips
- Place your portal mid-jump rather than from a standstill — you'll often need the extra height a portal-jump gives you to clear a gap.
- The portal despawns the moment you teleport to it, so plan your next move before you commit.
- When a laser shows up, treat it as a one-hit hazard — route your portal placement around it rather than trying to out-time it.
It suits players who like short, replayable puzzle bursts rather than a long platforming campaign — a few minutes at a time is enough to make progress.
