Refuge Solitaire brings a calming nature-themed aesthetic to a highly strategic double-deck puzzle. Set against a serene backdrop of alpine lakes and evergreen forests, this solitaire game presents a scenic escape for players who love deep card-arranging challenges. The green felt table, clean card designs, and tranquil atmosphere make every round feel like a relaxed brain teaser.
At its core, the game is a variant of Crescent Solitaire. Rather than dealing with a single deck, you play with 104 cards dealt across 16 crescent-shaped tableau piles. With all cards face-up but stacked, you must carefully plan each move to avoid burying vital ranks. It is a test of observation and card sequencing, perfect for quick mental breaks or longer, focused play sessions.
Rules of the Crescent
- The Decks: The game uses two standard 52-card decks, totaling 104 cards.
- The Foundations: There are eight foundation piles in the center. The top four start with Aces and must be built up to Kings by suit. The bottom four start with Kings and must be built down to Aces by suit.
- Tableau Building: You can move the top card of a tableau pile to another tableau pile if it is of the same suit and is one rank higher or lower. For example, a Jack of Diamonds can be placed on a Ten of Diamonds or a Queen of Diamonds.
- Empty Piles: When a tableau pile is completely cleared, you can place any single card into the empty slot.
- Round-the-Corner: You can place a King on an Ace or an Ace on a King to continue building sequences in the tableau.
Controls & Redealing
Play is entirely mouse-driven. You click and drag cards to move them, or simply click a card to let the game automatically move it to a valid spot in the foundations. If you find yourself completely stuck with no legal moves left on the board, click the redeal button in the bottom-right corner. You can redeal up to three times per game. Each redeal takes the bottom card of every tableau stack and moves it to the top, opening up new movement combinations.
Strategies for Victory
- Create Empty Slots: Your first priority should be clearing out thin tableau piles to create empty spots. These empty slots act as temporary holding areas to shift cards around and expose buried Aces or Kings.
- Balance the Foundations: Avoid building one suit's Ace foundation too high while its corresponding King foundation is empty. Keeping the ascending and descending piles relatively balanced ensures that cards of intermediate ranks are accessible from either side.
- Save Redeals: Do not use your three redeals early. Only trigger a redeal when you are absolutely sure there are no moves possible on the tableau or foundations.
