Pinguino the penguin never turns down a snack, and the only thing standing between him and the picnic blanket is a room full of stubborn blocks. Picnic Penguin is a Sokoban-style puzzle: every level is a tight grid of crates blocking the way to a piece of food, and the only tool you get is a shove.
The twist is that blocks aren't identical. Push a tall block and it drags every shorter block behind it along for the ride, letting you move several at once and open a path in one move. Push a short block into a taller one, though, and it simply stops dead. Reading which blocks will slide and which will jam is the whole puzzle, and later levels add key blocks, one-way blocks, teleporters, buttons, and spiky blocks that end the run on contact.
Controls
Press and hold near Pinguino to bring up directional arrows around him, then drag toward the block you want to push. It works the same way with a mouse on desktop as it does with a finger on mobile or tablet.
Tips
- Work out which block you're actually pushing first — a short block wedged against a tall one won't budge, so trace the chain before committing to a shove.
- Pushing a tall block moves every shorter block lined up behind it, so look for chances to clear two or three blocks in a single push instead of one at a time.
- Later worlds add enemies that react to your position — Office Space's employees charge in a straight line the moment they spot you, so break their sightline before you move.
- If a level looks solved but a block sits just out of reach, back up a step; over-pushing a block off its lane is a common way to lock yourself out of a level.
It plays in short bursts — a level rarely takes more than a minute or two once you see the trick — which makes it an easy one to pick up for a quick puzzle break.
