First Colony is an idle management sim about running the first human settlement on Mars. You lay out habitats, oxygen generators and resource extractors, then watch the colony run: oxygen, water and food keep accumulating on their own, even while the tab is closed, and you spend what piles up on the next building or upgrade.
The loop is less about split-second reactions and more about sequencing: which structure unlocks the next one, which resource is about to bottleneck, and when it's worth upgrading an existing building instead of placing a new one. Colonist health, happiness and productivity all move up or down depending on how well the colony is supplied, so a strong run comes from keeping those three in balance rather than rushing any single resource.
Controls
Mouse only: left-click a building to place it, and left-click an existing one to purchase its next upgrade. There's nothing to learn on a keyboard, which also makes it comfortable to play on a phone or tablet.
Tips
- Because resources keep accumulating while you're away, check back periodically rather than sitting and watching numbers tick up in real time.
- Extractors and habitats feed each — if colonist happiness or productivity starts dropping, it usually means one resource chain is lagging behind the others rather than a building needing a straight upgrade.
- Prioritize whichever resource is closest to running out before spending on a new structure; a stalled colony recovers slower than one kept just ahead of its needs.
It suits players who like idle-builder pacing — check in, spend a batch of resources, set a new goal, come back later — over anything twitch-reflex based.
