Calamari drops two squids into a single room and starts breaking the floor plan around them. Every few seconds a wave hits: warning lines flash across a patch of blocks, and when the wave lands those blocks shift, seal off routes, or turn into hazards outright. Your job is simple to say and hard to keep up with — grab the coins scattered around the room and stay alive while the layout keeps rearranging itself under you.
You're not defenseless. Shooting clears blocks that would otherwise trap or crush you, so part of the skill is reading which incoming block is about to seal an exit and blasting it before it lands. Get pinned in a gap too small for your squid and it's over in one hit. Push your score high enough and the room gets meaner — the screen starts flashing red and fast-spawning boxes start shooting back, though surviving that stretch pays off in a flood of bonus coins.
Controls
- WASD or Arrow Keys — move
- Spacebar — shoot
Tips
- Don't chase every coin — a coin behind a block that's about to close isn't worth getting boxed in for.
- Shoot ahead of the wave, not after it lands. Once a block has already shifted into place, it's too late to clear it.
- Watch for the score threshold where the background starts flashing red — that's your cue the room is about to get aggressive, not a glitch.
Calamari plays in short, tense bursts rather than long sessions — it suits anyone who likes an arcade high-score chase where the room itself is the real opponent. A second player can drop in locally for a red-squid-vs-green-squid version of the same scramble.
