Backgammon HTML5 Game

Backgammon is one of the oldest board games still played today, and this version brings the full classic ruleset to the browser: 15 checkers each, two dice, and a race to bear every piece off the board before your opponent does. Roll to move, hit a lone checker to send it to the bar, and decide when it is worth leaving a blot exposed to build a stronger position instead.

You can play a full match against the built-in computer opponent or pass the mouse back and forth for local two-player games. A double on the dice plays out four times instead of two, and if you have no legal move with the numbers you rolled, the turn passes automatically to the side — both handled exactly as in tabletop backgammon rules.

Controls

Everything is mouse or tap. Click the dice to roll, then click a checker to pick it up and click a highlighted point to move it there. A toggle in the corner switches sound on or off, and a button is available if your browser supports it.

Tips

• Don't rush to run every checker home — leaving a well-placed blot can be safer than the alternative if the point behind it is covered.
• Watch for forced moves: if only one of your two dice numbers can legally be played, the game will make you take it, so plan a roll ahead when you can.
• Building consecutive covered points blocks your opponent's escape routes and is usually worth more than racing checkers home early.
