Success in 2048 is entirely dependent on board control. The most reliable method for reaching high scores is the "corner strategy." Pick a corner—for example, the bottom right—and build your highest value tile there. Keep your next highest adjacent to it, and so on.

To maintain this structure, avoid swiping in the direction opposite to your chosen corner (e.g., if you are building in the bottom right, never press UP unless you are absolutely forced to).
