About Penalty Rivals

Penalty Rivals is a 2.5D penalty-shootout game from Happylander: you and an opponent take turns as kicker and goalkeeper, each getting a fixed window to score as many goals as possible before the roles switch. It trades the usual slow, one-shot penalty format for a fast back-and-forth where every swipe counts toward a running score.

As kicker you get thirty seconds to fire off as many shots as you can, aiming for the corners and for the numbered bonus targets that pop up in the goal for extra points. Then you switch to goalkeeper for thirty seconds and have to read the incoming shots and dive in time, before the side with the higher score wins the match.

Controls

  • Click and drag quickly with the left mouse button to swipe — the direction and speed of the drag set where the ball goes (as kicker) or which way the keeper dives (as goalkeeper)

Tips

  • Go for the numbered target icons when you're kicking — hitting them adds bonus points on top of the goal itself
  • As goalkeeper, any part of the keeper's body touching the ball counts as a save, so a same-side dive that's slightly off can still connect
  • Spread your shot placement across your thirty seconds rather than repeating the same corner, since the round is short and a few blocked shots can swing it

Penalty Rivals FAQ

How do the controls work?
Click and drag quickly with the left mouse button to swipe. As kicker, the direction and speed of your drag set where the ball flies; as goalkeeper, it sets which way you dive.
How does scoring work?
You get thirty seconds as kicker to score as many goals as you can, then thirty seconds as goalkeeper to block your rival's shots. Whoever has the higher score when both timers end wins the match.
What are the numbered icons that appear in the goal?
They're bonus targets that show up while you're kicking. Hitting one with the ball adds extra points on top of the goal itself.
Does a save need to be a perfect dive?
No — as goalkeeper, the save counts as long as any part of the keeper's body makes contact with the ball, so a dive that's close but not centered can still block the shot.
