About Little Alchemy

Little Alchemy is a surprisingly absorbing puzzle game that starts with just four basic elements: air, earth, fire, and water. By dragging and dropping these tiles onto a blank canvas, you combine them to create new materials, objects, and concepts. What begins as simple logic quickly spirals into a massive web of 580 distinct items to discover.

The pacing is entirely self-directed. There are no timers, no fail states, and no penalties for incorrect combinations. You simply experiment at your own speed, matching items based on real-world science or clever wordplay to steadily grow your library of creations.

Controls

  • Drag and Drop: Use your mouse or touchscreen to pull elements from the right-hand sidebar onto the main workspace.
  • Combine: Drop one element directly on top of another to see if they mix.
  • Duplicate: Double-click any element on your workspace to clone it.
  • Clear: Use the cleanup button to sweep your workspace clean, or drag individual items back to the sidebar to delete them.

Tips

  • Look for the Underline: If an item in your library has its text underlined, it is a "terminal" element. It cannot be combined with anything else, so do not waste time trying to mix it further.
  • Think Laterally: While many combinations are literal (fire + water = steam), others require abstract thinking or pop culture knowledge. Try combining concepts rather than just physical objects.
  • Combine the New: Whenever you unlock a new element, immediately try combining it with your core four starting elements. This usually unlocks quick progression trees early on.
