About Friday Night Funkin B-Sides

Friday Night Funkin' puts you in the shoes of Boyfriend, a walking pair of headphones with a serious case of anxiety about the girl he's dating. To win Girlfriend's favor, and her parents' grudging approval, he has to out-rap a rotating cast of opponents in call-and-response freestyle battles, one arrow at a time.

Each song is a call-and-response: your opponent sings a line, then it's your turn to hit the matching arrows as they scroll up to the target zone. Land notes on beat and your health bar tips toward you; miss too many and it swings the way until the song ends early. It's rhythm-game fundamentals with a distinct cast and soundtrack built around it.

Controls

  • Arrow Keys or WASD: Hit the note as it reaches the strike line
  • Enter: Confirm menu selections
  • Escape: Pause the current song

Tips

  • Watch the strike line, not the notes as they spawn — your reaction window is built around when they arrive, not when they appear.
  • Drop to Easy or Normal on a song you don't know yet; the note patterns don't change what you need to internalize, just how forgiving the timing is.
  • A song you keep failing near the end is usually a timing habit from earlier verses catching up with you — replay it in Freeplay rather than only in Story Mode.

It's built for short, replayable sessions rather than a long campaign, and it suits anyone who likes rhythm games with a strong sense of character behind each opponent.
