Duck Life 4 is a training and racing game where you build a team of athletic ducks to compete in tournaments around the world. Following the ban on genetically modified ducks from the previous game, you start from scratch with a single basic duck. The core loop is all about balance: you grind mini-games to level up your duck's skills, earn coins, and buy enough seed to keep their energy high during races.
What sets this entry apart from the rest of the series is the team mechanic. Instead of relying on just one bird, you can eventually purchase and train multiple ducks, swapping them out to tackle specific race conditions or competing together in relay events. As you progress from the beginner Grassland area all the way to the Volcano, the tournaments get longer and the rival ducks get much faster.
Controls
The controls change depending on the training mini-game you are playing, but they primarily use the arrow keys.
- Running: Press Up to jump over obstacles.
- Flying: Use the Left and Right arrow keys to change direction and avoid collisions.
- Swimming: Use the Up, Down, Left, and Right arrow keys to navigate the water and jump over obstacles.
- Climbing: Use the Left and Right arrow keys to jump between the walls of the canyon.
Tips
- Energy is everything: A duck with maxed-out skills will still lose a race if it runs out of energy. Always buy plenty of regular seed before entering a tournament.
- Focus on the current area's skill: While you need all skills eventually, each new area usually heavily tests one specific discipline. Train that one first.
- Build a specialized team: Later in the game, it's faster to have different ducks specialize in different skills rather than trying to max out every stat on your starter duck.
