Age of War is the classic side-scrolling defense game where two bases sit on opposite ends of a single lane, and you spend the whole match pushing units down that lane while fending off whatever the enemy sends back. Every kill fills an XP bar, and once it's full you evolve into the next era, which throws out your old roster for stronger units, a beefier turret and a new special attack.
The run takes you from cavemen throwing rocks all the way to laser-armed mechs, and the pacing is the whole appeal: you're constantly re-learning the matchups as both sides evolve, deciding whether to push for the next era or spend your resources holding the line right now.
Controls
Everything is mouse-driven. Click a unit icon to queue it, click the flashing Evolve button once your XP bar is full to advance to the next era, and click the skull icon to unleash that era's special attack.
Tips
- Don't evolve the instant you can – if your current units are winning the exchange, cash in a few more kills first so you're not evolving into a weaker economy.
- Save your special attack for when the enemy has massed units near your base rather than firing it the moment it's ready.
- Mix cheap and expensive units instead of spamming one type; a pure wave of your strongest unit is slower to rebuild if it gets wiped.
It's a good fit if you like tower-defense pacing but want something shorter and more back-and-forth than a full RTS.
