Skywire 2 is Nitrome's sequel to their 2008 cable-car balancing game, and it keeps the same idea: you're piloting a wire-mounted cable car across a mountainside, carrying three passengers, and every robotic animal that clips the car flings one of them out. Reach the station with at least one passenger still aboard and the level counts as a win.
The whole game runs on one axis of movement. There's no jumping or dodging sideways — you're always on the wire, and survival comes down to timing your forward and backward momentum to slip past ostriches, parrots, rhinos and camels as they attack. Thirty levels ramp from simple wire runs to three boss encounters, so later stages ask for real precision rather than just quick reflexes.
Controls
Up and Down arrow keys are the whole control scheme — Up pushes the cable car forward along the wire, Down pulls it back. Most of a run is spent tapping lightly to hold your position while an enemy passes, rather than holding a direction down.
Tips
- Small taps beat held key presses — the cable car has momentum, so overcorrecting sends you straight into the next threat.
- Losing all three passengers ends the level, so it's often safer to hang back and lose a little time than to risk a hit with only one passenger left.
- Boss levels change up the pattern from the regular stages, so watch a full attack cycle before committing to a push through.
Skywire 2 also supports two-player play, letting a second person race the same wire alongside you, and it includes every level from the original Skywire to replay in co-op. It suits short, replayable sessions rather than long ones — a level runs a minute or two, and the challenge is in re-running a stage until the timing clicks.
